Driving test Driving test: Taking the driving license in Japan is rather difficult, if you are not speaking some Japanese. Foreigners can get the license after passing written and driving tests (some countries need writing test only). The driving test course is short but testers are checking thoroughly the way you follow road signals and speed limits. Within the course, there is a turning place that hanging bars in both sides of the narrow road (see the photo). If your car touched any of these bars, you will disqualify on the spot. Most foreigners are taking the test more than once to pass.
